The LOCTITE® Story
Always at work on innovative ideas.
1953: Chemistry professor solved the unsolvable.
Hartford, Connecticut, USA, 1953. In his basement laboratory at Trinity College, Loctite® founder Dr. Vernon Krieble developed a solution to an age-old problem: loose nuts and bolts in machines and appliances. This entrepreneurial chemistry professor invented a cure-inhibition system for a unique bonding resin that hardened in the absence of air and presence of metal: an anaerobic adhesive.
Loctite® anaerobic adhesives and sealants provide
threadlocking,
thread sealing,
retaining and
gasketing assembly and maintenance solutions to industry's biggest challenges.
They help industrial customers reduce costs and increase reliability.
New York, New York, USA, July 26, 1956. Loctite® made its official public debut at a press conference at the University Club. This anaerobic solution to an “unsolvable” problem led to an incredible flow of inquiries.
The 1960s. Loctite® introduced Cyanoacrylate (Instant Adhesive), a very fast one-part, room-temperature industrial adhesive. Loctite Corporation continued its legacy of innovation, introducing new generations of anaerobic and cyanoacrylate technology and products.
1997. Loctite® was acquired by Henkel and remains a primary brand to this day.
Today. Loctite® offers the world’s largest range of locking, sealing and bonding solutions. The Loctite® brand continues to represent innovation as the global leader in engineering adhesives and sealants – encompassing every manufacturing and maintenance reliability technology, from threadlockers and thread sealants to retaining and gasketing compounds, structural and light cure acrylic adhesives, epoxies, silicones, cyanoacrylates (instant adhesives) and hot melt adhesives. They are all industry leaders in superior performance, added value, and reliability. Loctite® holds more than 8,000 patents, plus 5,000 patents pending, and remains at the forefront of innovation to increase reliability and prevent downtime.
